Restoration
Houchen Bindery, Ltd. is pleased to offer archivally sound restorations on all types of printed matter. All of the materials used are acid-free, preservation tested items, and the processes are state of the art. There is no end to the types of materials we have handled; Bibles and plat books are most common, but we have restored dictionaries, medical and legal books, photo albums, song books, recipe books, children's storybooks and more. To properly quote a price, it is necessary for our staff to evaluate your materials; therefore we do need to have the items sent in. We will advise you of the exact cost of your order, or give you a range of prices using various materials and processes. Work will not proceed until your approval is received in writing. All orders will have a $25.00 per book minimum charge for evaluation and return, plus the T/H charge. This amount will be credited to your account if you choose to let our staff restore your materials.
The following prices are effective 6/15/2010:

The above quotes are used to give any customer an idea of the costs of these services; exceptional individual books can be more. (For example, some law books are handled as Special and Unique Projects. Please contact us for details on this type of pricing.)As much of the original book cover and its appearance will be preserved as is possible. Repairs using new materials are disguised, and often original materials are dyed or otherwise darkened by our treatments. Loose pages and sections are usually rejoined by adhesive only; front and rear covers are usually rejoined with new material, with the original spine mounted over it. Our goal is not to make a piece look brand new; rather it is to protect, preserve, and enhance the piece to allow it to be displayed and used again.
All orders are handled as either pre-paid, or can be placed through Visa/MasterCard/Discover Card. We appreciate our customers' patience during the busy summer months when all hands work on processing the huge influx of summer-only materials (mostly textbooks from schools). Due to this strain, restoration work will slow during the summer months. Most materials will be finished within 6-8 weeks. Your quick response to our inquiry can be a great help; otherwise, your order could be delayed. Please be aware that some materials are rare and highly sought after, which also means valuable. You may be better served to not have any preservation work performed, as many collectors deduct value for such treatments. If, however, you wish to enjoy that special piece you own and are worried about its condition, our restoration treatments will bring you much satisfaction.
Clam Shell
Clam shells are used on materials not suitable for regular binding. Clam shells are more substantially constructed, using regular binder's board covered in F grade buckram, with C grade buckram interior coverings. Spines can be stamped, and colors chosen. Clam shells achieve almost total blockage of light, dust, and air from the original materials enclosed.
Please forward your restoration materials to the following address with the completed Restoration Form (link below) included:

Please indicate your desires and expectations in a note with your materials, and we will respond with our thoughts. Your name and contact information should be included, and please enclose a SASE for our response. All items should be sufficiently insured (we have good luck with UPS and Federal Express) and properly packaged to protect them from damage. Any transportation of your materials involves some risk, which you assume.
ALL PRICES SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE. ALL RESTORATION WORK WILL BE CHARGED AT A $95.00 MINIMUM. ALL WORK REQUESTED 1/2 DOWN AT START OF THE PROJECT. RUSH CHARGES, IF APPLICABLE, ARE 25% OF TOTAL ORDER.
